The Social Poets: Funny Late Nite Jokes About Rupert Murdoch, Debt Ceiling, Politics

The Social Poets: Funny Late Nite Jokes About Rupert Murdoch, Debt Ceiling, Politics: "From Denny:  You can't say this summer's hot weather didn't bring with it some seriously bizarre political entertainment.  Never a dull moment the past week.  Rupert Murdoch became the news instead of creating the fictitious news and selling it as if it were the truth, the usual business of a tabloid 'news' organization.

Rupert Murdoch and the News Corp Scandal

Murdoch was busy employing media consultants to come up with a strategy of how to distract Parliament while it was going badly for him when he was testifying.  No one in Britain - or the rest of the world - wanted to hear him and his son, James, whine about how they were not aware of all the wrong doing going on in their tabloid news rooms."

The Social Poets: Obama: New Book Examines If Barack Is Like His Father

The Social Poets: Obama: New Book Examines If Barack Is Like His Father: "From Denny: Author Sally Jacobs shares details from her new book which focuses upon the life of President Obama's enigmatic father. Barack Obama, Sr. was profiled as bold and reckless. The book is called 'The Other Barack.'

Barack, Sr. lived large, drank heavily and had multiple wives because he had come from a polygamous background. To him it was socially normal.

President Obama is rooted, extremely cautious, responsible, monogamous and an attentive father. He's the typical profile of the child of a raging alcoholic.

You see a lot of this reaction from the next generation in politics, the military and the intelligence community. Even President Bush 41 reacted in a similar fashion to his father, Senator Bush, who was an alcoholic."

The Social Poets: News Corp Scandal Grows: Death and Resignations

The Social Poets: News Corp Scandal Grows: Death and Resignations: "From Denny: As Billionaire Tabloid Media Mogul Rupert Murdoch seeks to fend off the media and investigation sharks, more drama unfolds day by day. Here's the current tally:

* Sir Paul Stephenson, the top police official, resigned once allegations surfaced he employed some pricey folks from News Corp as advisers to the UK's Scotland Yard at the steep price of $1,700 a day. Sign me up on that assignment.

* Next on the resignation chopping block today is John Yates, the London police commissioner. He was in charge of an investigation back in 2006, looking into illegal telephone intercepts by NotW. Obviously, he did a good job of burying that investigation for Murdoch.

9/11 victims may have been hacked

* On this side of the Atlantic in America there are as yet unsubstantiated allegations that a private investigator and a former New York City police officer were offered payments for sending information about 9/11 victims News Corp's way. If found to be true, those guys had better move to another planet as the entire city might erupt."

The Social Poets: Roasted Media Mogul Rupert Murdoch: UK Hearings

The Social Poets: Roasted Media Mogul Rupert Murdoch: UK Hearings: "From Denny: As Rupert Murdoch tried to play the frail old man routine he served up his own son as more 'in the know' than him about the doings of all his $39 billion net worth companies and the 53,000 people in his employ.

There is just one problem with that depiction: Rupert is known for being a hands on kind of guy, especially when it comes to the tabloid newspapers. He regularly calls his editors and inquires about the latest salacious gossip and scandal. He relishes and revels in it. Does that sound like a foggy confused old guy? Of course not."

The Social Poets: Rupert Murdoch: Just How Many Companies Does He Own?

List of 20th Century Fox filmsImage via Wikipedia

The Social Poets: Rupert Murdoch: Just How Many Companies Does He Own?: "From Denny:   He promotes or destroys politicians with his attention or anger, manipulating entire countries through the bribing of their politicians.  These are just his media holdings. He owns other American stalwarts like Brawny paper towels and Angel Soft toilet paper.  His sphere of influence has been so far-reaching it boggles the mind.

Of course, those of us who have been crying foul for some time now about journalism ethics not being utilized by his tabloid newspapers and cable channels have been run over by his huge empire.  There are times when I wondered if anyone could hear my lone voice crying in the proverbial wilderness.

Well, at long last now people understand why people like me have been so disturbed over his media corporate culture.  Who in the hell does he think he is to so intimidate world leaders so as to grab yet more power?"

The Social Poets: News Corp Scandal, Heads Roll, 2 CEOs Resign: Dow Jones, News Corp

The Social Poets: News Corp Scandal, Heads Roll, 2 CEOs Resign: Dow Jones, News Corp: "From Denny: The bigger they are they harder they fall. First, it's the News Of The World tabloid newspaper that abruptly closes down. Then CEO of News Corp International, Rebekah Brooks, resigns today. The pressure was on from the Prime Minister - with the help of two investigations on both sides of the Atlantic.

Now, the latest development is that the CEO of the Dow Jones, Les Hinton, resigned.  Dow Jones is also owned by Rupert Murdoch.  Hinton was Chairman of News International at the time of the alleged phone hacking found out in the UK.  News International is News Corp.'s British newspaper unit.  Hinton was there for 12 years before moving over to head up Dow Jones.

There isn't much that Rupert Murdoch does not own. The list is practically endless. It's no wonder few people or politicians dared to oppose him on anything. But some things, well, not even a guy this influential can control or win."

The Social Poets: Funny Late Nite Jokes: Casey Anthony Trial, News Corp Scandal, Debt Ceiling

Comic Jon Stewart calls Fox News on their many lies

The Social Poets: Funny Late Nite Jokes: Casey Anthony Trial, News Corp Scandal, Debt Ceiling: "From Denny: This past week comics had plenty to lampoon. William and Kate, the celebrated British royals came for a visit to California while on the continent. There was an outburst of royal fever while they collected funds for their favorite charities. Recently married this was their first excursion as a duo and they were warmly received everywhere they visited.

Casey Anthony Trial Verdict

On the darker side: the Casey Anthony trial, where a young single mother was accused of killing her two-year-old daughter. Jurors acquitted her, delivering a surprise verdict. The whole country erupted in indignation because everyone assumed her guilty."

The Social Poets: Keith Olbermann On UK News Corp Dirty Tricks Scandal

DAVOS/SWITZERLAND, 29JAN10 - David Cameron, Le...Image via Wikipedia
UK PM David Cameron

The Social Poets: Keith Olbermann On UK News Corp Dirty Tricks Scandal: "From Denny: This scandal of tabloid media despicable has so thoroughly disgusted the world that finally the British government is doing something about it. Hacking a dead soldier's email, hacking the phones of murdered teenagers and terrorist victims is heinous. What ever possessed these people to sink so low below the pond scum of humanity?

The reaction in the UK? Let's see, let me count the ways: Advertisers have pulled out, saying they will not return until after the investigations happen. The public is so fed up they have dropped subscriptions all across the country to the once popular newspaper. Politicians are jumping in front of cameras to get their denials on record. The police who also assisted this newspaper by accepting bribes are on the hot seat of investigations. Even the guy who helped propel current PM David Cameron into his national office is on the grill. The list goes on."
